Cellphone VS Bible

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several time a day?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?

What if we used it when we travelled?

What if we used it in case of emergency?

This is something to make you go ... hmm, where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to

worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already

paid the bill.

Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities?

Oh the best part is no dropped calls or lack of service!

What do you think of this poem? Feel free to give your opinion/ comment. =)

AOCF newsletter 17th - 21st August

Hey AOCFers,

How's it going? Exhausted with uni work? Have been drinking coffee and red bull most of the time to stay awake? Haih...tired tired !!!

Anyway, here are the following updates.

Friday meeting

As usual,

Time : 5.30pm
Venue : St Andrew's Church ( next to music school. If you don't know where it is, meet outside the chapel latest by 5.15pm.)

On Friday, a new staffworker from TSCF, Elliot Ng will be joining us and give a talk based on songs and lyrics. You may ask what's so biblical about this. Find out more on Friday. You may find something that you may not know before from this talk on Friday so do come!!.
We will head back to food alley for dinner this time as the responds for last week's place is not too good. Hahah...

OCF Annual General Meeting
We're having our Annual General Meeting (AGM) next Friday, Aug 28th, during our usual Friday meeting time. This is when we elect our new core committee members (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer).
WHO:
The current committee has 4 people in mind for these four roles. We have been praying for weeks and the candidates have prayed and considered their roles. We'll be announcing them at the AGM :D
According to the AUSA rules that we follow, nominations are welcome, from any paid up member (membership fee is $2). If you are to nominate someone, it needs to be on paper: signed by you, the nominee, and a seconder. This is to be handed to Elena before the AGM.
WHAT:
This is roughly what will take place in the meeting. Charmaine will lead us to sing a few praise and worship songs, then Elena will be reporting on events that took place in the year since the last AGM, and Sheena will be presenting our financial report. The nominees will be giving speeches at AGM and then voting will take place. After voting we'll pray for the new committee and end the meeting with speeches from Michelle and Jo-Shua.
(We might be doing a potluck/being-a-plate that night in the chapel, but will have to confirm that with you guys in the next newsletter as we don't know if we have enough people who can actually bring food. N don't forget, after that Laserstrike!!!)
This is exciting :-) New core committee members :-)

SNOW TRIP UPDATES!

Hi all,

There has been a change of plans concerning Snow Camp so here goes:

Instead of 2-5th Sept (Wed to Sat), we'll only be going from 2-4th Sept, staying two nights in Ohakune and no nights in Rotorua.

It's now shorter and cheaper, which means more time to catch up on your studies, less stressful on your wallet and you'll still be doing the same activities as previously planned!

Here's the updated itinery:

Wednesday
9am: Meet at Chapel, pray etc
About 12pm: Lunch somewhere in Hamilton or somewhere with food
About 330/4pm: Arrive at Station Lodge, Ohakune and check in
Rest of the day: Bum around, supermarket shop, dinner, rent gear for the next day, BIG SLEEP IN PREPARATION FOR SNOW!

Thursday
7am: Wake up, breakfast
8/830am: Hopefully on the way down to the snow

Onward: SNOWSNOWSNOW
430pm: Gather, return gear, dinner and sleep at Station Lodge, Ohakune

Friday

Sleep in

Head to Rotorua for activities (Luge, Spa... Depending on who wants to do what)

Head back to Aucks

So once again, WHAT do you need to do if you're keen on coming?

(DEADLINE: 18 August 09)

Reply to this email ASAP with these details:

Name:

Cell Number:

Email Address:

Whether you can drive, have a car and are willing and able to drive: YES/NO

(Drivers it would be great if you could reply quickly so that we can organise transport)

Bring $25 as a non-redundable down payment for the Station Lodge accommodation THIS COMING Friday at OCF, 21st of August.

Kelvin will be collecting the money then.

SO yea, we cut 1 day down to make sure most of you can come along for this trip. Also, it is cheaper this time and it's another reason for you to consider coming for this trip. Hahaha...

AOCF newsletter 10th-14th August 2009

Hey guys!

How's your week so far? Anyway, Jesus week was great isn't it? On behalf of AOCF, I would like to thank you for getting involved and support during that week. Some of you actually went out and share the gospel with people around campus and even at Albert Park. Keep it up!! Though these upcoming weeks are not Jesus Week anymore, but that does not mean you should stop sharing your faith and the gospel to people around, which includes your family members and friends. You guys are great. Thank you very much.

Anyway, here are the following updates :

Friday Meeting

TIME : 5.30pm
PLACE : Maclaurin Chapel

This Friday, Elena's dad will be joining us at the chapel and give a talk on FAITH & WORKS. An interesting combination and would be great if you can come along and listen to the talk. What is faith? What is work? Is it all about doing all the good deeds and is it for your own glory or Him? Find out more this Friday. Also do not forget to bring along your friends. Hehehe...
We will be eating out this Friday. Probably we will try this new place at Victoria Street ( opposite the bungy ) instead of Food Alley ( unless you really want to go food alley ). This new place is new and has 20% discount after 6pm. Woohooo!!. Also, the food is not too bad. So we might try it over there on Friday. However, choices are not as many compared to Food Alley.

LaZer-Strike!

Everyone probably needs to have some fun after all those tests and stuff. OCF will be having a Laser Strike Night as a fundraising event on Friday 28th of August (Week 6). It is the last week of uni before semester holidays. It will be held from 10pm-1am which will be after the usual Friday meetings and dinner!

The cost is ONLY $25 for the entire three hours! This will be held at the Sylvia Park Megazone which is the biggest one around (we will be booking the entire place). There will be a room with television sets available while waiting for your turn so feel free to bring your gaming consoles, food, drinks etc..

This is a fundraising event so do invite your frens!! Transport will be provided from the chapel to the place. This does mean we need drivers so those who are able and willing please indicate.

5-7pm (Friday Meeting)
7-9pm (Dinner)
9:15 (Leave City and head towards Sylvia Park)
9:45 (Arrive at Megazone)

If you are interested in coming, give your names to either Juin (021-2653997) or Justin (021-1655911).

SNOW TRIP

Yes, I know I have sent out lots of time regarding snow trip. I need you to confirm with me as soon as possible because we need to book for accommodation. Dateline is before 18th August 2009 but it will be great if you could confirm as soon as possible=). Slightly bad news, dates are not confirmed yet BUT it will be on the 1st week of holidays. Also, there's a slight problem regarding accommodation at Rotorua. That is why we need your co-operation. Your prompt co-operation is greatly appreciated.

Tear Down the Wall - Hillsongs United

Tear Down The Walls

Tear down the walls see the world
Is there something we have missed
Turn from ourselves
Look beyond
There is so much more than this

And I don’t need to see it to believe it
I don’t need to see it to believe it
Cause I can’t shake this
Fire deep inside my heart

Look to the skies hope arise
See His majesty revealed
More than this life there is love
There is hope and this is real

Cause I don’t need to see it to believe it
I don’t need to see it to believe it
Cause I can’t shake this fire burning
Deep inside my heart

This life is Yours and hope is rising
As Your glory floods our hearts
Let love tear down these walls
That all creation would
Come back to You
It’s all for You

Your Name is glorious
Glorious
Your love is changing us
Calling us
To worship in spirit and in truth
As all creation returns to You

Oh for all the sons and daughters
Who are walking in the darkness
You are calling us to lead them back to You
We will see Your spirit rising
As the lost come out of hiding
Every heart will see this hope we have in You

Cause I don’t need to see it to believe it
I don’t need to see it to believe it
Cause I can’t shake this fire burning
Deep inside my heart

This life is Yours and hope is rising
As Your glory floods our hearts
Let love tear down these walls
That all creation would
Come back to You
It’s all for You

Your Name is glorious
Glorious
Your love is changing us
Calling us
To worship in spirit and in truth
As all creation returns to You

The Maze and the Map

Many years ago, a very wealthy man lived in a spacious castle near a small village. He had vaults full of gold and silver and his estate stretched on for miles and miles. One day the man came into the village and announced that he had built a giant maze on his property. The walls were very high, and it stretched out over several hundred acres. He had placed all of his gold and silver in the center of the maze; any man who could get to it could have everything.

Since everyone in the village was very poor, each man packed a few things into a sack, said goodbye to his family, and set out to find the treasure. After several weeks, a few emerged from the maze. They told of men dying and others insane from getting lost.

One day a young man stood at the entrance, thinking about his own journey, when he heard a voice behind him say, "Are you going in alone?" Startled, the young man turned and saw an old man behind him. "No, I am afraid. Many men have lost their lives in there, and saw an old man behind him. "No, I am afraid. Many men have lost their lives in there, and I would surely die also." The old man looked deep into his eyes and said, "My son, I built that maze, and I have the map. I know every corner and turn. You can follow me, and I will lead you straight to the treasure. Now stay close and walk in my path."

Psalm 32:8 (NIV), "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you."

The young man had the benefit of walking through the maze with its creator. Christians have the benefit of following the Maker and Creator of all through life's twists and turns. Our challenge to you: What are some ways you can make sure you are walking with the Lord? Write them down now. Ask God to help you follow Him more closely in each of these areas.

SNOW TRIP UPDATES

First of all, on behalf of AOCF, I would like to thank Francine, John and Joel for organising this snow trip event. They have made lots of research regardin this event and they deserve a credit for this. Haha.

We have decided that the snow trip will kick off on 1st September 2009 until 4th September 2009. It is the first week of the mid semester break and I guess it is better to do it on first week. We can leave the 2nd week for our own things, especially assignments. OH NO!!..

I will give you the rough plan on what we are doing throughout that period. We won't be using all 4 days to snowboard/ ski on top of the mountain.

TUesday

9am : Meet at Chapel, pray etc
10am : Leave
About 12pm : Lunch somewhere in Hamilton?
About 330/4pm: Arrive at Ohakune and check in, perhaps at Station Lodge

Rest of the day: Bum around, dinner, BIG SLEEP IN PREPARATION FOR SNOW!

Wednesday

630am: Wake up, breakfast
720am: Be outside SLR, waiting for it to open at 730am
830am: Hopefully on the way down to the snow

4pm : Gather
About 5pm: Return stuff
6/630pm : back on the road to Rotorua

Arrive, check into youth hostel

Call/buy Domino's pizza for dinner? (There's a Domino's on Fenton street, it won't be hard to find)

Thursday

Bit more chillaxed,

9am: leave for Skyline luge rides etc/just hang out for the people who're not keen on going

Lunch

Polynesian Spa

BBQ dinner + Angel game + some telematch games. More for bonding time together..awwww!

Friday

10am: Check out (check out time is 10am)

Slowly make our own ways back to Auckland.

So yea, this is the rough plan. What I need from you now is for your confirmation on this trip as we need the confirmed number of people in order for us to book for accommodation. Once confirmed, hopefully you won't pull out last minute because that will affect the plans so badly.

That's all for now. Any questions, just write down on the comment box below.

eReach!

eReach! is about evangelistic outreach. We want to impact this campus with the reality of Jesus. And for the whole of this week we've been giving out free milo as a way of initiating conversation with the students on campus, and giving out flyers to them about Jesus Week...and influencing them with our love. We NEED your help! And we also have gospel sharing occuring around the OCF tent in the quad just outside the Recreation Centre. We're using the tent as a meeting place for us to head out to share the gospel and to come back and meet, and it's also the place where we're giving out free milo. Think of it as bringing OCF out into the campus. It's happening everyday for the rest of this week from 11 to 2pm. And from next week onwards, it'll be happening 11am to 2pm every TUESDAY :D so please do pop along if you wanna observe how to share the gospel and to learn how to share, or even if it's to help out give out milos...it's been a great way of making friendships with the students around us with the intention of sharing Jesus with them.

what : eReach! evangelistic outreach. mix of GST (Gospel Sharing Team) and free milo.
when: everyday for the rest of this week from 11-2pm, and also EVERYDAY TUESDAY 11-2PM from now on.
bring: a smile, a loving spirit, and a desire to see this campus changed for jesus! :D

AOCF BLOG
Oh Yes, I've changed the AOCF blog from multiply to blogspot. It is www.aucklandoverseaschristianfellowship.blogspot.com. I know it's such a long name but I can't put in the abbreviation of the club's name because it belongs to come other people. Oh well, the purpose of the blog is so that if you have any enquiries, just ask us via the blog rather than replying everyone's email one by one. It makes things easier and more efficient. Some of you may ask the same questions as other person via email. Why not just one person ask, and I could just provide an answer straight away. It is more like a discussion forum or whatever you call it. Also, if you have any feedbacks or anything you would like to express about AOCF, feel free to do so in the blog. =)

Tongue Twister
How much myrtle would a wood turtle hurdle if a wood turtle could hurdle myrtle?
A wood turtle would hurdle as much myrtle as a wood turtle could hurdle if a wood turtle could hurdle myrtle.

THat's all for now. Have a great week ahead. God bless!

Weeks so far...

The mid semester break has finally got to its end. Time to pack those books in our bags, walking fron one end to another and sitting in front of the computer screen straining our eyes with piles of readings, resources and announcement from CECIL. A new semester has arrived and time to go back to uni!. Some were sighing but some were excited.

Let me start off with orientation week. First of all, on behalf of AOCF, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Wilson and Regina for being the main organiser during the week. Regina has been spending all her time designing the flyers and delegating members to help out at the booth while Wilson has constantly being efficient throughout the week. This guy never turns up late and very responsible for making sure everything went smoothly. So good job to both of you. What amazed me was this time, there were more people came and help out at the booth. These people were not shy giving out flyers, lollys and milo to people walking pass and whenever they're free, they chose to stay at the booth. I'm impressed that most of the first years actually stood up and help at the booth. Great work people.

As for Friday meetings, Nigel Pollock came all the way from Wellington to Auckland and joined AOCF to give a talk on what is the purpose of being a Christian in campus. How do you find about the talk? Did any points made by Nigel hit you at some point? I know there was one point he mentioned that strucked me a bit. He said " Go back and think of who do we have in mind that we want to share the gospel with? Or sow seeds with". It strucked me because I was thinking whether have I actually done such thing to my non-Christian friends. It is hard to share the gospel with people that does not believe in God at the first place. But hey, in the gospel of Matthew, God calls us to be the salt and light of the world ( Matthew 5:13-16). So why not we step up and share something about God to our non Christian friends. At first, of course, it is hard but I guess we will never know until we actually try it out.

On the second week, impact group kicked off with bonding session among members. Elena's impact group had steamboat at Michelle's place on Monday night. What a night. We ate lots of food but it was lots of work. Some people were non stop stirring the soup while some just cannot stop laughing out loud. I guess it is a good thing. They enjoyed themselves and can see that the relationship among members were close. Secondly was a joined dinner between Bennie's and Raymond's impact group. We had potluck in the chapel itself. Food was great. We get to taste some home cook food. Not to forget some nice bbq pork and roast duck. Yuuumm!!. After dinner, we played boardgames and enjoyed ourselves a lot. Taboo was rather intensed. Bolderdash was funny etc etc. Haha. Unbelievable turn out actually. Speaking of impact groups, hopefully you signed up for the impact group times as stated in the newsletter.

Friday meeting on the 2nd week was on evangelism. The speaker was Graeam from Auckland Chinese Presbyterian Church. In the gospel, the classic example is the parable of the seed. When we go out sowing seeds, some may accept it, some may reject, some just couldn't be bothered. It is not necessary street evangelism that we're talking about. You can spread the gospel to your friends or even your family. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could have eternal life. When Jesus was out there preaching, some people rejected Him but He still constantly spreading the word. His 12 disciples were chosen to sow seeds. As these seeds were sown on good ground, it produce fruits. It multiples!. I once attended to this church service and there was this preacher named Chris Hill. He said " Quantity is not the issue. Majority doesn't mean you're right." So even if there is not many people who chose to believe in the good news, at least there are still who believes eventhough they may be small in quantity. Also, what makes us not wanting to go out and sow seeds? Do we have any other better things to do? Or we just don't want to get involved due to the fact you don't like the feeling of being rejected? If we do not share our faith, how does people know that God really works in us?

That was second week. So what do you think of the first and second week? Any feedbacks? Haha. Feel free to comment on this post regarding what happened on the past weeks in this semester. Other than that, that is all from me. Take care and God bless.
